Frances Young Tang

New gift establishes the Frances Young Tang ’61 Professorship in Economics and the Frances Young Tang ’61 Asian Studies Program Endowment Fund.

Skidmore's Ice Hockey Team

The team will embark on a new era as an associate member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference beginning in 2025-26.

‌Join TIAA representatives and learn about the service provider transition taking place in May. Visit the benefits website for more information.

‌2023 Employee Worksite Well-Being Interest Survey results 

‌Last fall, a survey was sent to all employees to evaluate the current Live More, Skidmore employee well-being program and ask for input for future program improvements. See a summary of the results here.

Announcements

Yes! Days for accepted students

‌The College will be hosting Yes! Days for admitted students on Friday, April 12, and Monday, April 15. There will be an increase in traffic across campus on these dates, including at the North Broadway entrance and Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. Parking on campus, primarily near Arthur Zankel Music Center, will be affected. Everyone is invited to address questions, provide directions, or simply say hello to our guests as they chart the next four years of their academic journeys.

‌Middle States affirmation of accreditation ‌

‌Skidmore is beginning the affirmation of accreditation through Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). An informational meeting about the process will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, and feature MSCHE Vice President Liaison Judith Sciple. All Skidmore community members are encouraged to attend. Contact Amy Tweedy for more information. 

‌‘How Vowels Endure Winter’ world premiere 

‌The world premiere of David Greenberger and Tyson Rogers’s “How Vowels Endure Winter” will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in the Tang Teaching Museum. The event is the inaugural performance in the Adirondack Trust New Works Series and features a series of monologues with piano responding to work by the artist Joachim Schmid. 

Eclipse glasses donations

‌Wondering what to do with your solar eclipse glasses? Collection boxes are located in Case lobby by the Information Desk and in the lobby of the JKB Theater. Set up your own collection box and then drop off or send glasses in campus mail to Eunice Ferreira by April 30. Glasses should be free of punctures, scratches, and tears. Donations that will be shipped to school children in South America for an upcoming eclipse.

‌Out of the Darkness Walk 

‌Join the Out of the Darkness Walk for an afternoon of remembrance, hope, and healing at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, on Case Green. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are welcome to walk in support of those impacted by suicide or mental health struggles. Red Cross blood drive

‌The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the All-Purpose Room, Williamson Sports Center. To schedule an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code SKIDMORE. Contact Michelle Hubbs for more information. 

‌The Candace Carlucci Backus '66 First-Year Experience Prize 

‌The prize is awarded to first-year students in recognition of exceptional scholarly or artistic achievement in their Scribner Seminar. This year's prizes are awarded to Amanda Ruffino in American Tastes with Professor Beck Krefting for their paper “The Evolving Role of Rye: Navigating the Influence and Significance of the Rye Grain in History” and Audrey Tignor in Jane Austen Inc. with Professor Catherine Golden for their paper “Leaving Barbie Land: Growth and Manipulation in Emma.” Additional Backus nominees include Kyle Goodwin, Sara Tilem, Gray Mendoza-Arredondo, Carter Nierle, Vicky Grechukhina, and Evelyn Labson. 

‌Hiring for Reunion weekend ‌

‌Alumni Engagement is hiring current students and college-aged children of Skidmore employees to serve as Reunion ambassadors, assisting alumni engagement staff throughout Reunion weekend (Thursday, May 30, to Monday, June 2). Campus housing for that weekend is available to current students. ‌2024 Summer Pre-College ‌ ‌

‌Did you know Skidmore's Pre-College program is one of the top 10 in the country? Returning to in-person learning this year, high school juniors and seniors are invited to live on campus, take Skidmore classes, and earn college credit. Classes run July 1 to Aug. 3. 

 

‌Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5K Run/Walk

‌The second annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, April 28. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. for a 1 p.m. start. The first 100 to register will receive a free T-shirt.‌

 

‌Join the Workforce Team Challenge ‌‌

‌The Workforce Team Challenge, a race supporting the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club and local charities, will take place on Thursday, May 16, in Albany. Register online by Wednesday, May 1. To participate, select Skidmore’s team and fill out all the required information. Do not check out; Skidmore’s team captain, Darren Drabek, will manage payment. Contact Darren Drabek or Rachel Roe-Dale for more information, including details about carpooling and celebrations after the race. 

‌Give+Go move-out donation collection

From April 28 to May 18, students are invited to donate non-perishable food, clothes, and gently used home goods to our local nonprofit partners: Backstretch, Trinity Alliance, and Capital City Rescue Mission. The Sustainability Office calls for Skidmore community volunteers to sign up for donation organization, midweek sorting shifts, and senior move-out day. Read more on the Give+Go website. ‌

‌Celebrating Earth Month

‌The Office of Sustainability will be hosting a variety of events throughout April in celebration of Earth Month. ‌Reusemore competition

‌Students and employees are invited by class year and staff/faculty group to participate in Reusemore and reduce campus waste by signing up for reusable containers at The Spa. The group with the most April sign-ups has the chance to win a Spa gift card. Contact Isabella Figlioli with questions. 

‌Altered book contest ‌

‌Scribner Library welcomes all individual and team entries for the ninth annual Altered Book Contest. Entries will be accepted through noon on Friday, April 12. Register online. ‌

‌Applications for the 2024 Make Your Voice Heard Skidmore Public Policy Prize competition are due at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 12.

‌Jigsaw puzzles needed

‌As finals approach, Scribner Library's first-floor puzzle table receives a lot of use; consider donating old jigsaw puzzles so the library can continue to offer this resource. The bigger the puzzle, the better. Puzzles can be dropped off at the Circulation Desk during open hours.

‌Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure and schedule 

‌Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in Skidmore Weekly Bulletin, which is distributed to all students and employees. Submit announcements and events, academic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Athletics Events

The Skidmore golf team will host its annual spring tournament, the Tim Brown Invitational, at the Ballston Spa Country Club this Saturday and Sunday. The women’s lacrosse team hosts a non-league game against Oneonta on Sunday as the Thoroughbreds celebrate Morgan’s Message, a non-profit organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health struggles within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. Seven other Thoroughbred teams are hitting the road this weekend with some crucial Liberty League standing at stake. Visit the Skidmore Athletics website for updates.
