A new partnership between the Arts Administration Program and Universal Preservation Hall in downtown Saratoga Springs offers students valuable field experiences and opportunities to network.

Announcements

COVID-19 reminders

As we prepare for the resumption of classes following spring break, Skidmore encourages all to take steps to help keep our community's COVID-19 numbers low. Please consider wearing a mask in situations where transmission may be more likely. If you develop symptoms, please test and wear a mask while symptoms persist. If you test positive while away, you must isolate for five days before returning to campus. Students may pick up free rapid tests from Campus Safety and the Case Center Information Desk. Employees may receive four free rapid tests per household through www.covid.gov/tests; MVP also covers the cost of tests. The latest guidance and other updates are available on Skidmore’s Campus Planning website and Skidmore’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

 

VP of Communications and Marketing Open Forums

All members of the Skidmore community are invited to participate in open forums with two final candidates in the search for the College’s next vice president of communications and marketing in Filene Recital Hall from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, and on Monday, March 27. Advance registration is required, and participants must affirm their commitment to confidentiality.

 

Haupt Pond dredging

Workers are scheduled to begin dredging Haupt Pond on Monday, March 27. An amphibious machine will be used to remove cattails and other invasive plants, which will be deposited on the shore before being hauled away for disposal. During this process, access to the gazebo and the perimeter of the the pond will be restricted. A second phase will continue the project this fall.

 

President’s office hours

President Conner will hold open office hours from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, and from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to request a 10-minute, in-person appointment. To register, please email presoff@shorinji-kempo.net. Requests will be handled in the order they are received.

 

F. William Harder Lecture, ‘Barbara Tfank’ exhibition

Students and employees are invited to watch a livestream of the 2023 F. William Harder Lecture “Fabric Inspires,” with fashion designer and alumna Barbara Tfank at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. Registration to attend the lecture in person is now full. In conjunction with the lecture, the exhibition "Barbara Tfank" will be on view March 18–26 at the Tang.

 

Altered Book Contest

The eighth annual Lucy Scribner Library Altered Book Contest is open to students, faculty, and staff. Entries will be accepted through noon Friday, April 7.

 

Event Management System (EMS) training available

The Scheduling Office will be offering one-on-one training to employees and students who may need help with using EMS. For more information, contact Megan Bove.

 

Commencement regalia

Seniors should order their caps and gowns through the Skidmore Shop’s regalia website by March 22 for pickup on campus beginning April 25. Orders for home delivery must be placed by April 24. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for purchase at the Skidmore Shop starting April 25.

Student Leadership Award nominations due Monday

The Skidmore community is invited to nominate students who have made outstanding contributions to the community through their involvement, service, and leadership development activities for several Student Leadership Awards. The deadline is 4 p.m. Monday, March 20.

 

Admissions Discovery Tour

The Admissions Office invites campus offices and student groups to participate in the Discovery Tour, an accepted student's day program for the BIPOC student community. Our goal is to highlight campus resources for candidates considering Skidmore, including academics, intercultural life, and student life, as well as the perspectives of current students. Please register by Friday, April 3, to participate in our Resource Roundtable session from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, on the second floor of Murray Aikins Dining Hall. McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center construction updates

This week, blasting, rock removal, and tree removal will take place as part of the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center project. ChatGPT, Universal Design Learning (UDL) workshops

The Center for Leadership, Teaching, and Learning invites faculty and staff to participate in a ChatGPT Workshop and Luncheon with Aaron Kendall and Ben Harwood of Skidmore’s LEDS Team from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. Please RSVP by Wednesday, March 15. From noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24, there will be a lunch and workshop with Susan Pliner on “Designing for Inclusion: UDL as a Framework.” Please RSVP by Monday, March 20, for the UDL workshop. Both events take place on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall.

 

Summer Experience Fund applications

Applications are now open for the Summer Experience Fund (SEF), which provides grants of $4,000 to support students completing unpaid summer experiences. First-year students, sophomores, and juniors enrolled in classes during the 2023 spring semester and 2023 fall semester are eligible to apply. To learn more, visit the SEF website and register to attend a virtual information session from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 22.

 

Summer course registration is now open

Skidmore students may register for in-person and online courses offered during three summer sessions to fit their schedule, location, and time zone. Visit the Summer Sessions for the course list, dates, and cost. Visit Master Schedule and Banner Self Service for the schedule and registration.

 

Spring intramurals

Intramural coed power volleyball will be offered Monday and Wednesday, and intramural five-versus-five basketball will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. All games will take place between 7 and 10 p.m. All participants must be current students or employees with a valid Skidmore email address. Register online.

 

SGA Equity in Products for Natural Hair Act resolution

The Student Government Association has approved a resolution that allocates $2,050 in funding to start a new program to provide natural hair products to students on campus at no cost for the spring 2023 semester. For more information, contact SGA.

Athletics News

Skidmore spring teams have hit the road for spring break. There are nine teams playing 35 events over seven days in Florida (baseball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis), South Carolina (softball, men’s and women’s crew), Georgia (golf, women’s lacrosse), and Pennsylvania (men’s lacrosse). Off to winning starts are men’s lacrosse (3-1), baseball (3-3), women’s lacrosse (2-1), men’s tennis (4-1), and women’s tennis (5-1).
